JULIEN'S NORMANDY

This is a 100% scratch built model, made only with a starboard viewand an aerial view. Total length 26 cm.
It is made of balsa for the hull and 0.5 mm PMMA for the superstructures.
I call this work mockup for convenience but it is really more of a volumetry. The volumes are stylized taking into account the size. I wanted a graphic and artistic result, not necessarily realistic.

Before the first photo: collage of the printed vector layout made from a top view of the ship on a block of balsa, cutting with a band saw then straight sanding with a lapidary. Shaping of the stern terraces with the sanding block,
then tubular file. Sanding the bow with sandpaper to give the curve

Shaping of the breakwater, in two very small pieces of 2 mm PCV. The edge is filed at the tubular limit to draw the curve allowing the wave to be evacuated on the sides

Collage of the winter garden and the promenade bridge. I drew headbands with window on Illustrator, which I laser cut in the engraving position to preserve the 0,5 mm thick PMMA in which the headband is cut. I also cut a base out of the same material then I thermoformed the curve of the conservatory and then glued it to the base

Cutting in chimneys in balsa (traces glued on the blocks, then band saw and sanding, same principle as the hull) and the result.

One of many sanding sessions.

Realization of the base of the chimneys (in fact the base of the chimneys is wider, a consequence of the smoke evacuation pipes which are not vertical to the chimneys but on the sides, to leave a completely free plane over the entire surface of the ship). The small key makes it possible to realize the scale

Passage of the primer on the hull with an airbrush.

The superstructures also received a primer, airbrushed.

Last touch-ups following the passage of the primer with the airbrush.
